This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a Title I, K-5 turnaround school in Dorchester, MA. School turnaround started five years ago, and since then we have been tasked with the incredible responsibility of instilling a love of reading in every child. As a school, we believe that reading opens doors for children in a way that nothing else can. Teaching students how to read is at the root of closing the achievement gap. Not only does reading support all content areas, it provides our scholars access to the world around them and new worlds they are yet to discover.
We are a school of voracious and eager readers who need more books!
We believe that the highest leverage way to support our young readers is in targeted Guided Reading groups on their reading levels. As of right now, the book room that we inherited leaves much to be desired! We are seriously lacking texts in the A-G range!
With your support, we will be able to purchase Guided Reading books to stock out Bookroom. Teachers will use those books to provide targeted support for every single reader. We appreciate any donation that you can make!
