Ms. A. from CA is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need dynamic, fun, worldly books to enjoy and share.

Only 30% of students at this school are at or above proficiency in Language Arts. Only 29% of African Americans at this school are reading proficient. Our school is performing in the lowest 10% out of all the schools in California. Simply put, students here are struggling to learn to read.
Our school is mostly African American and American Samoan.
It is located in a crime infested area and has the highest number of foster children and a large number of socioeconomically disadvantaged youth. These students are at risk of being illiterate and eventually dropping out of school.
My students need high interest low reading level materials to motivate reluctant readers. I am requesting donations to purchase popular literature. As the school librarian, I believe these students need and deserve the most exciting, and interesting books to motivate their reading. If students have no opportunity to read books they are interested in, then an opportunity is lost for intrinsically motivated and inspired reading. These students are in jeopardy of not only an illiterate life, but of self destruction as a result. Reading is fundamental, these students need to be shown that it is also fun.
Please help me add high interest, colorful, exciting, adventurous and dynamic books to this library.
These at-risk students deserve to experience the magic of reading for fun! It can change their lives forever! Help them learn that reading is FUN!
