My Students

As an inner-city charter school, we get a unique mixture of students who are either eager for an academic challenge, or else seeking a place of acceptance. However, regardless of their reason for joining us, they all show the same wonder at the world around them, and a shared question of "why". Examples of this include, "Why did soldiers fight in a line during the American Revolution?" or "How does steam-power work?" or "How is steel made?" A majority of my students have passed the jadedness that one sees in high school and are not afraid to ask the questions they are curious about!

My Project

Due to the small size of our school building, we are unable to have a formal school-library. However, books still hold a relevant and important place in education. I will be compiling a small library of books for student-reference, both for their enjoyment and also for use on their written assessments. These books aim to bolster the discussion on using multiple sources, citing them appropriately and understanding the validity of various sources.

In this day and age, students are reliant upon and overly comfortable with the internet, but take it as gospel.

By having accessible, relevant and engaging books available to my students, they will have more material to enhance their understanding and improve their writing.
