Help me give my students a diverse collection of S.T.E.M. books featuring underrepresented main characters, specifically females and females of racial minorities.
My kindergarten classroom is a place of challenge and discovery. My students spend their year learning the foundation of knowledge and skills they will need as they move forward in their educational career.
My students are a very diverse group of children comprised of various races and ethnicities.
We welcome and embrace this and build a strong community where we enjoy learning about each others' cultures, traditions, and celebrations.
They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while nurturing their love for learning, reading, math, and STEM. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence and success.
My Project
These children's books will allow my students to see characters like themselves engaging in the STEM fields, specifically those students that are typically underrepresented in children's books and the STEM fields.
The books will allow my female and minority students the opportunity to see themselves as the main characters, leading the story and finding solutions to new problems.
The books will be read during our literacy and science blocks. They will also be available for my students to read during their independent reading time. They will be powerful reminders to all of my students that they can achieve whatever they set their minds to.
