My Students

I love my diverse students! I teach Honors, Inclusion, and College Prep students currently. Many walk into my classroom immediately saying they "hate English" or "hate reading". My goal is two-fold.

First, I want students to walk out at the end of the semester saying, "This is the first English class I actually enjoyed!"

Secondly, I want my students to realize how important good grammar, decent writing skills, and the ability to read any text will be to them, not just next year, not just throughout high school, but for the REST of their life.

I have joined DonorsChoose.org to build my classroom library of engaging and new books!

My Project

I am hoping to build a classroom library, with your help, to grow our literature circles so all levels of readers are engaged. This is why you see multiple copies of specific texts including I'll Give You the Sun, Every Falling Star, How I Resist, The Kite Runner, All American Boys, and The Hate U Give.

Students will have three or so titles to choose from for their circles.

After reading, they divide into circles and discuss the reading. This grows literacy and leadership, as they get to choose, and they facilitate their own discussions.

I love seeing the spark in my student's eyes when they realize there IS a book written just for them!
