Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We have a great campus that is really inspiring students to make a positive difference in their communities. This year our students have organized a beach clean up to help with pollution, a domestic violence awareness week, suicide prevention week, animal rights week and more. Students choose a topic, create a powerpoint where they show it to our school, display posters, fliers and more.
My middle school students are low income, first generation to college students, working hard to succeed in school.
They are always going above and beyond in everything they do. This includes working on extra credit assignments, researching, organizing activities outside of school for the community and more.
Something our school is working on is building language development and a love of reading in our students. We are pushing our students to read at least 20 minutes a day. However, In my class I personally don't have enough books to loan out to my kiddos nor do we have a school library. I am requesting sets of books for my students to read and share.
My Project
Please help me build my personal classroom library. We do not have a school library and so teachers at our school are trying to build our classroom libraries and giving our students the ability to read and build their RI scores.
I have an advisory class where we build reading competitions.
The more they read / present information about their books to their peers the more prizes they win. However they are running out of books to read since they have read my small amount already. These books would greatly help and hopefully get them hooked on loving to read. Thank you so much for taking the time to review our project.
