Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am currently a third-grade teacher to amazing students in a low-income community. I have the same students from last year because I was given the opportunity to loop with them. I am so thankful for that. We are having a fabulous year. Aside from being in the Class Champions and Coyotes Reading program, they are students that strive to be their best selves each day.
My students set high standards for themselves and push themselves to be their very best each day.
We are an extremely close classroom with much to celebrate.
My Project
Our class LOVES to read and we are big on exploring next text to help learn state standards, as well as to have meaningful discussions. I am seeking literature that creates conversations and builds community among our students. I am also looking to add new books to our collection that will excite ALL learners. I have some students that are struggling with the motivation to read; I chose books that will create that LOVE of reading I want. Students need to know that literature is powerful and that we can all make a connection to a book.
These specific books are laugh out loud, ones that hit close to home, and ones that will help teach my students lessons they can related to in their community.
Updated literature would add to rich discussions and motivate all learners to pick up something new! Readers are leaders.
