I work in a Title I school district, which means that the majority of my students come from poor economic backgrounds. I believe school should be their escape. It should be fun and a place where they learn that anything is possible.
It is my goal to expose my students to the generosity of the world.
I have had smaller projects funded through this site. My students were in awe knowing that complete strangers cared about them and their success. My hope is that they will pay your generosity forward in the future.
My Project
We will use these books during distance learning to conduct teacher-led whole-class text to self activities via ZOOM. I will read portions independently or along with student teachers and classroom students (depending on our reading level), then take key elements out of them to reflect upon the validity of the content. Then as a class, we will discuss the deeper context of the text. Topics included will pose questions such as, How do you feel about what the author is proposing? What would you do? Would any of these key ideas make your educational experience a better one? Would you feel comfortable trying these techniques with me in the classroom?
As I analyze this year's student data, self-regulation and classroom engagement is where my students are lacking.
Being able to conduct a whole-class book study/mind shift would make our classroom a better place to be and will give my students the skills they need to prepare them for the ever-changing world.
