My students need quality books that teach about social skills; persistence, choosing your words, being welcoming to everybody, kindness, emotions, and listening.
There are also a few books about potty training, the writing process, shapes.
My students are adorable, loving kindergartners! My classroom is a co-teaching model, meaning students with various disabilities are included for the full day with typical developing peers, and two teachers; myself & a fabulous special ed. teacher & a wonderful teaching assistant.
The students are excited to learn and will grow SO MUCH this year in so many ways!
They will learn to read & write, make new friends, and learn valuable social skills (inviting others to play, how to express your emotions, and being kind to everyone).
My Project
These books will be used as classroom teaching resources and will also be shared in our classroom library for students to love with their own hands! Students love to hear their teacher read a story (especially one they relate to with the characters' problems)...For example, "Jabari Jumps" is a book about a boy who is scared to jump off the high dive, but with his dad's encouragement, he finally does it, and feels pride and accomplishment. This book teaches about persistence & a major bonus; it has a wonderful African American boy and his dad as the main characters!
These books will get read over and over again, becoming loved friends in our classroom!
They will provide jumping points for conversations and modeling to shape desired behaviors. Books= helping create loving, caring, supportive citizens in our classrooms and the world!
