This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a special education teacher for 3rd and 4th grade. I teach both English and Math resource classes as well as co-teach in general Ed classrooms and assist students who are struggling to be able to access and succeed with the same curriculum as their peers. My 4th-grade resource special ed students benefit from special supplies and books on their reading level to help them learn the material they need to be successful and grow!

My Project

This year our school has started an amazing monthly celebration ceremony where we celebrate students who have worked hard at improving their reading skills! Every student who has moved up a reading level gets to have a special lunch outside in the courtyard where we celebrate them and they can choose a brand new book that they get to take home and keep!

This has been a huge success and motivator for our little readers this year.

So successful that we have about 150-200 kids moving up a reading level a month now... that's a lot of free books! Which is a lot of money! This project I have created is asking for donations for children's books that will be given to our students so they can be celebrated and encouraged to continue their journey in literacy! Every student deserves an at-home library to continue their literacy journey where ever they are!
