My students need access to more books in the art-room, from art history, to learning how to draw Pokemon and Manga characters. The more books we have the more we can differentiate for each student.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at the elementary and middle school I work with are eager for knowledge and new experiences. They are creative with a unique and expressive voice. Our school is located on the southwest side of Chicago where most families are low income. Our School is a Title I school and our families and students are primarily bilingual-Chicagoans which illustrate their expressive and unique voices. Our school and district provides us with a limited budget so many of the necessities that all artists use need refilling and restocking. On a typical day, we use pencils, erasers, paper, crayons, markers, color pencils, sharpeners, glue sticks and sketchbooks made from construction and copy paper. As you can imagine we are constantly in need of more of these supplies with 500 students cycling through them.
Supplies need to be restocked and we need them to be in plentiful supply as to not inhibit our expressive artists!
My Project
These books will add to our library more resources for students to turn to when wanting to draw and learning art history. The books are available to students when needing ideas for project planning, when finished with class assignments, and on our exploratory days when students are leading their own art projects.
Since our school does not have a library, our class is collecting books based on student interest and teacher identified need; in the cart are books on Pokemon, Manga, cute animals, cars and also art history topics such as Jose Posada's and Frida Kahlo's work.
Additionally, there are books on general art history and inspired projects from the renowned Tate museum.
All these books will add a depth to the collection that we are starting with a range of Art, history, and application.
