My Students

My students are part of a small, close-knit community. Most have been on this campus with each other since Kindergarten. They are sweet and eager to learn. My 6th graders are beginning the transition to middle school and learning how to manage seven different classes and seven different teachers. My 8th graders are trying to enjoy their final year at the school while balancing nerves about moving onto the high school next year. Each year my students bring a new, exciting perspective to my teaching.

My Project

As the year begins, I have some students struggling to get into a book. The key to creating life-long readers is making sure students have access to books inside their classrooms.

I need more titles to help get the right books in their hands.

Books by contemporary authors such as Jason Reynolds, Kwame Alexander and Samira Ahmed will help students who are looking for books that they can identify with. Classics, such as Harry Potter by JK Rowling and BFG by Roald Dahl are great for 6th graders looking to fall into a good book.

Students read a book of their choice for 10 minutes each day, and this will help them to achieve their goals of finishing a new book.
