Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I teach middle school students with special needs in Brooklyn. The special needs program is new at the school, so there are very few books in the school that my students are able to read. I need to build my classroom library as fast as possible. I have requested a list of books that are lower level, high interest books -- books intended for older students who are still struggling with reading. These books will be accessible to my students without being babyish. In order for my students to learn to read, they need books that are engaging and on their level. With the right books, amazing things can happen. One of my students danced when he finished reading his first chapter book. Now I need a second chapter book for him to read. All of my students will benefit from these books. Please give this opportunity to enjoy reading to the students who need it the most.
