My Students

I teach a wonderful group of special education students. Many of them are from broken, low-income homes where they aren't sure if they are going to have running water or electricity. For many of these students, my classroom is the only constant in their worlds.

They always know that they are loved, treasured, and safe in my classroom.

Many of these students also struggle with reading and being exposed to different types of literature. I strive to provide them with the reading experience that they need to do well in the world.

My Project

In my classroom, we do project-based assessments. For one of our projects, we need a classroom set of the copy of "Ghost" by Jason Reynolds. This is a really exciting story about a middle school student that sprints on a track team.

He learns that he needs to let go of some of his emotional baggage to become the fastest track runner on his team.

I think my troubled boys would absolutely love this book. It is also a required text for our curriculum, so we would be using this every year, for many years to come. Since they are hardback, they should last for quite a while.
