My students come from a low socioeconomic status and many of them are English Language Learners with several disabilities ranging from learning disabilities to autism. I want to ensure that my students have the necessary resources to receive equitable education that meets each of their unique needs.
I am the new RSP teacher at my school and have noticed the lack of resources for special education students.
I feel that it is very important for students to have a classroom that has a library with reading material that is age appropriate, interesting, and engaging so that the students can learn to love reading. Many of the students I serve have difficulties with reading. I feel that if they are provided with books about a range of topics, this will spark an interest for reading and eventually help them become better readers.
These materials will allow my students to fall in love with and learn to appreciate books. I serve students with a variety of disabilities in grades k-3rd. Many of them struggle with reading. I feel that if this project were to be funded, my students would be given the resources to learn how to read and also appreciate books.
Unfortunately, many students in our district lack resources like books and school materials and their families cannot provide this for them.
I personally understand the value of learning how to read and I would like for my students to have a place where they can sit and read for leisure.
