Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a STEM magnet school which emphasizes Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. My students come to school not only ready to dive into inquiry, but also to focus on helping others and being kind.
My second graders also enjoy reading and helping out to keep our classroom organized. They thrive on being part of a classroom and school community. It is exciting coming to school each day as their teacher and watching them grow and learn how to care for others.
My Project
I have chosen a variety of high quality books for my second graders about social emotional learning. These books will be used as read alouds during social emotional lessons, as well as on a bookshelf in our classroom library, where students may choose to read them daily. Students having access to these books to read individually, as partners, and in whole group, gives them space and time to think about the concepts at hand and process how they are feeling as well as others. These books will help my students this year as well as students in many years to come.
