I have the privilege of teaching a group of wonderfully diverse students. I teach students with special needs. I teach students who have IQs higher than mine. I teach students that come from loving families. I teach students who hear gun shots at night. I teach students who can't afford yearbooks and students who buy extra yearbooks for their friends.
We are a suburban school that buses students in from the city.
We are a school that believes each student can succeed. We are a school that focuses on relationship building between the teachers and the students.
I am a teacher who wants to give her students the skills to make a positive difference in the world. I am a teacher who wants each student to know how important they are to the world. I am a teacher who wants to give the world to my students and my students to the world.
My Project
The main focus of this project is adding books to our classroom library. This year I am reorganizing the classroom library by genre. I hope this will make the task of independently choosing a book less overwhelming. When you see shelves and shelves of random books, it can be hard to know where to start. Sorting and color-coding by genre allow for less stress and easier access to choice titles.
Reluctant readers often become paralyzed when presented with too many books organized alphabetically by author.
By ordering new books and reorganizing the library I hope my reluctant readers find the classroom library more welcoming. I want to make sure all students are able to see themselves reflected in our classroom library.
I also want to restock our granola bar supply for the upcoming year. So often students show up without having had breakfast and learning can't happen if basic needs haven't been met. Help us start the 2019-2020 school year off right!
