My students are active and engaged learners. They love to learn and talk about what they are learning with one another. They are super interested in the world beyond our community and ask deep questions as they construct their understanding of the world. And each day they come back to school with more curiosity and questions. Our students love to grow, and we feel a sincere obligation to offer them the tools to nurture their growth both academically and socially.
My Project
One big goal of primary education teachers is to teach students how to read, whereas a big goal of upper elementary teachers is to help students want to read. We participate in a 40 Book Challenge as a way to encourage students to read across different genres in order to reflect on what types of books resonate most with them.
I want to help students find books that help them learn about perspectives they might not have considered and learn about places they might not have known even exist.
Having exciting books in our classroom is a great way to learn about the world, grow a deep love of reading and keep conversations about books strong.
I want to help my students find the books that will keep them up past their bedtime because they just could not put the book down.
