This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“Books give children light. Books give children hope. Books give children power.” These words from Donalyn Miller, author and educator, highlight the essential role books play in our students' lives. Books allow my students to travel to new worlds, meet new friends, and dream new experiences. My students are craving the opportunity to discover and embark on new adventures in new books.

My students are book-loving, avid readers, and enthusiastic learners.Students at my school are inquisitive, compassionate, and creative.

As English language learners, books are so important to my students and are truly valued. I am the librarian at a K-8 elementary school in an impoverished urban area. Our school library is an essential resource for my students. Many of my students do not have access to books at home and rely on our school library to check out high-quality books. There is a buzz about books and an excitement for reading in our school.

My Project

I am requesting sixty books from a variety of genres to revive the fiction collection in our school library. This project will add the newest and latest books my students have been longing to read to our school library and will help create the enticing and captivating library collection my students desire. These books with diverse characters and riveting plots will bring so much excitement to my students and will continue to spark their enthusiasm and cultivate their love of reading.

These books will captivate, inspire, and continue to develop my students' love of reading, a gift that will last a lifetime.

With your support of this project, we will be one step closer to creating the library of my students’ dreams with shelves full of new adventures to discover in new books. Finally, I will have an answer for my students when they ask: "Where are the new books?"
