This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
At the end of the school year, I want my students to have grown over one year in their reading level. Teaching in a self contained special education classroom, this is a challenge. But books for our listening center will definitely help us along our way!
I teach a group of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students in a self contained classroom.
My students are a diverse group in age, interests and abilities. Unfortunately my kids have far from everything they need, including supplies and books. I remember my elementary education with joy and I want my students to feel the same way. However, I must create that comfort within my classroom. Creating joy in academics, especially reading, is just one of my steps this year.
My Project
My class was fortunate enough to receive a listening center from a previous Donor's Choose project. However, we don't have books! This project is to provide audiobooks with accompanying paperbacks (of varying levels and topics) to go with our listening center so students can put it to use right away!
Donations to this project will allow us to receive materials for our listening center and not waste a day of "listen to reading time" left in the school year.
We are so excited about the listening center that is on it's way to us and want to fill it with books and put it to good use.
