Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The Reading Nook is an area in the classroom where my students have a quiet place to read. This happy section of the room is filled with books, phonics games, comfy places to sit, and is perfect for a small group mini-lesson. My students absolutely love their nook but need some books and phonics games to add to it! My special education students are excited, and invested in their books. They even encourage each other to read in this happy place. When a child has autism, ADHD, or some other learning disability it can be difficult to stay focused and the nook is helping us with this. This happy place of a reading nook I recently created is a safe zone for my students to sharpen their reading skills and move towards being on grade level.
My Project
We recently had a project funded for a comfy reading space, and now we need some books and reading games to fill it!
A fun and special reading nook can motivate kids to curl up with a book and get lost in stories.
This can be a crucial thing in their lives that sparks a passion for reading and books!
A reading space can help build literacy skills such as sentence structure, punctuation, and grammar. This is because, when books are readily available to use, students may be more likely to pick them up and read them, which is fantastic for developing essential skills in reading and writing.
