My Global Citizens Club is an exemplary group of 18 students committed to learning through experience. For our first year, our predominantly free / reduced lunch Latino student group has chosen to participate in a 9-day tour of Southern England called ?King Arthur's England?. Their hopes were to spend the year in advance learning about Arthurian Legends, the regions of Cornwall and Wales, and the history of the British people. We understood from the start that our dreams of travel would take long hours of fundraising to support our adventure. Our hope as a club was to raise additional money (on top of raising 100% of our trip funds) to purchase high-school level texts that deal with the Arthurian Legends both mythologically as well as historically. We also wanted to do a social study of the land and the people of Britain so that we would be better able to appreciate our experiences when we travel. Sadly, we have found that every penny we are able to raise for our group must be saved to help pay for the (very expensive, but well worth it) trip. We are looking for donations of group sets of books that tell Arthurian Legends in a way that keeps students captivated. We are also looking for individual books (both fiction and non-fiction) that will add to our club library and give us background information that will then enrich our travel experience. Overall, we want our experiences to begin well before we travel. As a teacher and a traveler myself, I understand how much more meaningful a trip becomes when you understand the history surrounding you as you explore. I want this once-in-a-lifetime trip for my students to be the most enriching and amazing experience I can offer. Please help our group make the most of our education not only through travel, but through the meaningful pre-experiences you can provide us!
