Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are committed to high-quality instruction for all our students. With classes of 35, we try to reach all of our students through small groups, reteaching, and hands-on learning. Climbing the mountain to college requires a personalized education, tailored to their strengths and areas of growth.
Our students come in with a variety of instructional needs.
Some are struggling while others are above grade level, but they are all learners who constantly seek to improve their understanding of this increasingly competitive world. Our students work hard; they're here early and stay late (7:15-4:00). They go to summer school, call us after school to get help with their homework, and do anything to meet their goals. Over two-thirds of our students receive free or reduced lunch. And while many of our students enter below grade level, all of them make exceptional gains through a commitment to education and sheer effort. Our students inspire their teachers through their sheer grit and dedication to climbing the mountain to college.
My Project
We want our 7th graders to grow as readers throughout this coming school year, but we need your help! Our classroom budgets are small, and without your support, our students will not have access to the books they need. The books on this wish list, including titles like "March," "The Darkest Minds," "Maus," and many others will allow all of our 7th grade students, no matter their reading abilities or backgrounds, to fall in love with reading this year. They will also introduce my students to characters from around the world, acting as windows into the diverse lives of people who are different from our school community and building an understanding of people who do not look or sound like us.
With your support, our 7th graders will begin to build reading habits that will last them a lifetime!
Not only will they become more successful students in middle and high school, they will develop into critical thinkers who can succeed in college and beyond! With your help, they will become individuals who are capable of promoting positive social change in their communities and in the larger world for years to come!
