My students are talking about reading and I'm trying to keep the motivation going. Getting new books in the classroom creates excitement as well as conversations about books and authors. This is my second year to work with this group of teens and I am seeing them develop a love for reading and I'm always looking for ways to encourage that love. The main way I can do that is by talking about books and bringing new books into the classroom.
The high school students in my classroom have set reading goals of at least 4 choice books this year. I encourage them to choose books that interest them which means I need a wide variety of reading material available for them. They are racing through their goals and searching for new, interesting books to add to their lists. Your generous donation will give them the choices they need to meet their goals.
Having a classroom library increases their reading interests and keeps them taking about the books they read. Reading increases their vocabulary, comprehension, and writing skills as well as creating empathy. Life-long readers are life-long learner. With more book choices, they will read more and develop a life-long love of reading.
In Their Own Words
We want more books to choose from. Often the library does not have current books for us, so we use our classroom library to find our next book. As a class, we discuss what we're reading and get excited when we hear about a book another student is reading. This makes us want to read the book too. Having more books to choose from makes reading more fun.
I will spread the word of the project! I think by spreading it, it will help get donors so we can get this project in action. Plus my family and I might even donate! This project would be a good thing for our class because if it will give us more books to choose from.
When we first started this year, I chose a book called Summer of the Monkeys and It was by far one of the best books I've ever read but the school library does not have it. I was glad to be able to find it in Mrs. Stover's classroom and I will be recommending it to others. I have never enjoyed reading as much as I have this year!
Having more books to choose from makes reading fun!
