Help me give my students books that they will love. They have already begun picking titles on amazon in hopes that some generous donors will grant our wishes.
My students LOVE to read. They love to be able to pick out their own books and engage in discussions about them. They are also very curious and full of great questions. Their reading interests are very diverse, ranging from informative texts, to historical texts, to narrative texts to mysteries to adventure.
My students are also interested in hands-on experiences.
They really appreciate situations in which they can actively be involved, rather than just listen to someone tell them about something.
My Project
If this project is fully funded, we will be able to add at least 40 books to our classroom library! Some examples of the titles they have chosen include Wonder, Pax, Eleven, Diary of A Wimpy Kid, and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. That's 40 current and relevant books for my students to read and pass on to next year's class.
I don't have reluctant readers, but by having these books picked out by kids, not adults, it should hopefully help any in-coming reluctant readers.
In choosing their own books to read, my students will be that much more likely to read more.
