Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students need activities that will entertain and challenge them during choice time. I teach an amazing class of 25 first grade girls in the South Bronx.
Many of my students are English language learners and children with special needs.
Most qualify for free and reduced price lunch. All of my students are creative, thoughtful, and eager learners, and much of their knowledge this year has been expressed through their play and self-exploration. It has been so exciting to see them fully engaged each day as they learn through collaboration and inquiry with their peers.
My Project
Hi there! Do you want to help to instill a lifelong love of reading and a passion for books in children? Well, it's one of the reasons that I went into teaching!
And now seven years later, I am amazed at how excited my students are when we learn about new authors or when I have new books to add to our library.
You could be a part of that excitement! With your generous donation, my students will enjoy leveled readers that not only will engage them but will also be at their appropriate reading level, which is crucial for reading success. I teach 25 bright and beautiful second graders in a high need area of New York City. Most of my students receive free or reduced lunch and are so eager to learn every day.
My students need a collection of high interest books, such as Fly Guy, Elephant and Piggie and Penny, to keep my students engaged in reading all day long. Unfortunately, my classroom library does not meet the needs of my very excited bookworms. I can often be found at the public library three or four nights a week, checking out extra books for my students.
A leveled library is especially important in second grade because this is the age when children learn to read and it is necessary to have multiple copies of the same title. With these donations, my students will be ensured best practices for reading instruction and will be well on their way to reading success!
You will not only be helping my students this year, but for all the years and readers to come. This collection of books will become a treasured part of our classroom library. Thank you so much for your support!
