This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Help low-income students find books they will love to read! I teach 9th grade English at an inner-city Arizona school.

Like many schools right now, we do not have the budget to buy books. My students need books that they are interested in reading instead of only reading what is in their textbook. The students have been asking for books that they will actually want to read, and as a fairly new teacher, my selection is limited.

I need class sets of "The Giver" and "Number the Stars". These are books that we have talked about in class, and the students are excited to read. I love it when my students get excited about anything, and the idea of them selecting their own books and knowing that they are looking forward to reading it fills me with excitement! These books will engage them and help them feel like they are in charge of their own learning. When they are reading what they love, they will love to read. Also, when my students get a chance to read a book it helps them prepare for success in college, and gives them the confidence they need to succeed.

I cannot purchase these books on my own, it is only through your help that my students will be able to have the books that they want to read. You make the difference in my students lives.
