My 6th and 7th-grade students are making short work of the limited books available in our developing math library. Could you imagine looking for an interesting book, only to find that you have read everything available to you, or that nothing captivates you?
My South Brooklyn 6th and 7th-Graders inspire me in that they love to read, all of the time!
I have teamed up with our literacy teacher in trying to support their amazing reading habits in math class; however, our math library is just developing. As I work in a high poverty school, basic supplies are often difficult to come by. My students often visit bookstores, but can only daydream about the books that they would love to have available to them. Your support would make my students' year and foster their development of math fluency.
My Project
The books in this selection, including Back to the Lab and Never Use Futura will bolster our library with books that use math and design and creativity in interesting and inspiring fashions. Exploring math in a manner that excites students, and piques their interest, is a way to not only turn students on to the beauty of mathematics, but also to have them further advocate for their educations, in that they will be reading books that they are interested in! Art, Design, Music, Construction, and Architechture are what we wish to explore through reading! My students are the designers, architects, artists, musicians, and critical thinkers of tomorrow!
Your generosity will bring our library to life!
I would love for my students to know that there is an exciting way to learn most anything. And, one of the best ways is to find a book that speaks to you, to identify with the ideas of another person, and to enhance your reading and math skills at the same time.
