Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Literacy Night is coming up in February, and in celebration of Black History Month, my scholars have chosen books that celebrate the Black experience in America.
In addition to choosing the books, my scholars have also pre-planned the activities they wish to do with the books (and their parents) once they receive them on Literacy Night.
They have such ideas such as identifying characteristics of the main character, summarizing the central idea, and drawing their own superheroes in order to reflect the superhero in the book. I'm so happy that they're so excited to plan their own learning activities with books that they chose!
In addition, these activities are meant to be completed with the assistance and oversight of their parents during the event. We believe that scholars sharing their learning with their parent or guardian will motivate further interest in reading as well as hook the parents into activities scholars typically do in their classes. This is a great opportunity for our whole Community!
