Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our middle school is in a low-income, urban setting. Students come from diverse backgrounds. We have many English Language Learners and special needs students. This is just part of what makes our school so special.
My favorite thing about my students is how eager they are to learn.
School is a safe space where they can explore their potential. My job is to teach students to read and write but they do so much more when they walk through that door. They collaborate, they struggle, and they learn that with hard work they can grow as students and people.
My Project
The best way to become a better reader is to read more books. Middle schoolers tend to be very picky about which books they will read. Therefore, I am requesting new and exciting books as additions to our classroom library. Students read every day in my classroom and I try to keep the classroom library fresh and intriguing. Adding new books is a great way to encourage my eighth graders to pick up something they never have before. These titles include various genres, topics, and reading levels so that every one of my students will be able to find something that they want to read.
