My students are strong and resilient. They work hard everyday to be the best they can be. I teach 40 beautiful 2nd grade students at a Title I school in West Charlotte, North Carolina. My students have set goals for themselves and are eager to get the most out of their education. They want to go to college and become doctors, police officers, professional athletes, and so much more. They deserve a learning environment where they feel confident and encouraged.
This year I have been working to provide my students with a classroom library that sparks their interest in reading while reading on their independent reading level. Most students are able to do just this; find books they are interested in and are able to read independently.
My students who are reading independently on a level H usually must read level G books because we do not have enough level H books.
This is not supporting my student's growth as a reader. My goal is to provide students reading on a level H the same opportunity as their classmates. My students will use these books to read independently or with a partner. Students have the opportunity to "book shop" every week so they are constantly reading new books. These books would allow students to read a range of new books on their level.
