My students need fiction and non-fiction books in a wide range of reading levels to help them continue to grow as readers. We especially need books well above and below 3rd-grade reading levels.
My students come from a wide range of backgrounds and enter my room with a wide range of abilities. Living in a rural town, home to a prestigious private college, my students may have Ph.D. parents or they may have parents struggling to make ends meet.
All of my students love to meet new challenges and are thrilled when they discover that they can do something they thought they couldn't.
We love to read all kinds of books and are learning how to push our reading and thinking to help ourselves grow.
My Project
My students are avid readers whose reading levels range from almost 2 years below grade level to 2 years above. Keeping all students in books that they can read independently throughout the year is an expensive challenge. When my students are able to choose a book they're excited to read, they read with more stamina, grit, and purpose. The more choices I can provide for my students, the greater the likelihood that each student will grow into a lifelong reader.
I am requesting books such as Nate the Great, Stella Bats, and Capital Mysteries.
These books will support all my students as we continue in our units of study which include mystery, non-fiction, character studies and animal research clubs.
