Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As the 5th grade special education teacher at my school, we are expected to do all the same things as other students for example reading novels. With my students at different reading levels this project will allow all of my students to read or listen to the same books no matter what level it is.
My students are from low income families and the school is registered as a title 1 school.
Many of my students don't have any consistency in their lives besides school. As a special education teacher, I base my classroom around structure and routines, allowing the students to know what to expect day in and day out.
My Project
During our language arts block, I break the students into several different centers, reading with me or my instructional assistant (IA) or independent reading and work. My students are on different reading levels but I like to read age appropriate material with my students that many of the other students in 5th grade are doing as well. This is generally done by myself or my IA reading to them during our instructional time. Having a set of Kindle Fires in the classroom would allow the students who are at a lower level of reading to have the books read to them online during their independent time. This would free up more instructional time when the students are working in small groups with myself or my IA.
This project will allow for more instructional work time for my students with myself or my instructional assistant.
Students will get more instructional time and the students time will be used more efficiently in the classroom.
