I work in an amazing building. My students are thoughtful, caring, excited to learn, and willing to challenge themselves. Most of our buildings families are Hispanic and many of them are not only learning the content we teach them, but also are learning English. Our students are the reason our staff do what we do. They inspire us and motivate the staff to give our best in order to help them grow into the best people that they can be!
A love of reading. This is something that every teacher hopes to instill in their students. Our school is filled with books - classroom libraries, our building library, and our "WIN" library. But all of these books belong to the teacher or to the school. What if we could provide students with books that they could keep, something to really help build their love of reading? And what if these books were able to be provided for special occasions - when a student showed amazing perseverance, met a goal they had been working on, or stood up for a friend?
This is the experience that I am hoping you will be able to help me provide for our entire building.
A Book Vending Machine (who knew there was such a thing?) allows our building to provide students with amazing books that they can earn and keep. This allows our building to get more non-fiction and literature into the hands of our smart and creative students.
A love of reading is something that is incredibly important to me. I learned to love to read in middle school. I want to be able to instill that into my building now and help them grab on to the adventure that reading offers them today!
