My students need historical fiction, biographies, realistic fiction, fantasy, mysteries, and graphic novels to meet their diverse interests and abilities.

Hooray! This project is fully funded
At my school, the teachers, parents, and students work together to establish the best possible working and learning environment. I feel privileged to be part of a community that comes together to do what is best for kids and to be supported by a PTO that shows up daily to support the work going on in the classroom. I feel deeply bonded with the students in my class this year, because I have had the privilege of being both their third and fourth grade teacher. Since I already know these students well, I know the kinds of books that interest and inspire them.

It's wonderful when student's have access to technology, but there is just nothing like a good book. It is so important for me to have a classroom library full of the best books. I need enough books to reach each student... enough to motivate and inspire every single one. My students beg me to read aloud during snack time, and they cheer when it's time for independent reading. It's not unusual to hear students laugh softly over their books, and I've seen even seen silent tears fall over the powerful stories enjoyed in the quiet of our classroom.
I asked my students to create a list of the books they wished to see added to our classroom library, and I based this project on their choices.
Several of my students requested graphic novels and shorter, highly illustrated fiction. Students who are still building stamina find success with these books! A handful of boys in my class asked for more books about sports. Others asked for mysteries and myths, and a couple of students requested books from specific series they are enjoying, such as The Unwanteds, Harry Potter, and The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place. I would love to be able to make these books available to my current fourth graders, as well as the classes that will follow them in years to come. Thank you for considering our project!
