Books for Brilliant Brains

My students need sets of books that will challenge, inspire, and engage them.

My Students

My students inspire me every day. Some of them face battles in their lives outside of school that keeps me up at night worrying about them. Many of them come to school to be in a safe place, to escape the sometimes harsh realities of home. They come to school to be loved, fed and cared for. Despite some of the heartbreaking situations within our school, our students push through barriers every single day. They are successful in so many ways, despite the challenges they face. They come to school with a smile on their faces ready to learn, and I am here to give them the education they deserve.

My Project

Even with the thousands of reading resources available to my students via internet access and an iPad, nothing is better than getting lost in a good book. A real book; one that they can hold in their hands and flip pages while enjoying that new-book smell.

Something magical happens when a kid discovers the first novel that really pulls them in.

They find themselves reading it during their free time, losing track of time while imagining themselves part of the world they are reading about. Once kids find this book (for me, it was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone when I was in third grade!) it's hard for them to find another to top it... but they try. They've then discovered that they DO enjoy reading, and there are books out there that they can absolutely get lost in.

I'm asking for these book sets to give my students the opportunity to find "that" book for the first time. The one they can't stop reading. The one they find themselves thinking about constantly, itching to read more until they finally finish it.
