My Students

Legacy Early College scholars are a group of students that deserve the highest quality education and resources offered. These scholars are eager to learn and curious about the world. As the librarian I want students to have access to quality and relevant books for the current times we are living in. Virtual and hybrid learning is something that many schools are having to adjust to, I want to be able to give students the experience of being exposed to new books and books that may help them navigate through the social justice issues America is facing along with the pandemic. The books I am seeking to make available to students, audibly for now but physically in the future, are books covering topics such as, diversity, equality, social justice, empathy, online learning, wearing a mask, and more topics that can be difficult to find the correct words to use when explaining to scholars. The scholars I will teach deserve to see and read books with characters that look like them addressing topics that affect them directly. Being able to provide literature that does that in away they can understand would be more than helpful.

My Project

As the media specialist I will cover topics on diversity and inclusion, empathy and critical thinking, communication, and others that would be helpful to introduce with books. I want to keep our library book collection current with books regarding what students are facing now. While we are not able to be in person currently, I will create videos for the scholars to have access to while they learn virtually. There is a special way that books allow us to connect. I will always cherish the way students will laugh with you during funny parts of a book, or feel empathy for a character that feels sad. Books have a way of bringing people together and I want my scholars to be able to experience that through the books requested.
