My students need high interest books specifically for boys! Getting boys interested in reading is difficult, with these Jake Maddox Sports books and other graphic novels I will have my male students begging to read!
My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds, home lives, and life experiences. However, they all come to school wanting to learn. They are all in different places academically, but they work together to help each other understand and comprehend. I have several students this school year that I have taught one or more of their older siblings in the years past so the family connection is already present.
Over 70% of the students are considered free and/or reduced lunch status.
We are culturally diverse, and respect the culture of everyone that walks in our classroom. Students also enjoy learning about the different countries that students come from and the customs that they practice. It is an awesome experience to hear the stories first hand.
The materials being requested will make a dramatic difference in my student's learning by engaging boys in reading. Reading effects every aspect of education, therefor it is important to get boys reading early and often.
To get male students excited about reading, I need to be able to put books in their hands that interest them.
For example, sports related books, graphic novels, and nonfiction text, are books that my boys love to read. Having these types of books within my classroom library will help me encourage my boys to read more! Reading more will improve all other academic areas.
