In my classroom, we are supportive, loving, and encouraging of all students. I am our grade level's inclusion reading teacher, so several students have special needs which at times can make learning look different. Despite all of their differences, in our classroom, we work hard to be unified through our love of reading and learning. More than 45% of our students are low income or have special needs.
The goal of my classroom is to make students learn to love reading.
I work hard on engaging students in reading and writing to help students grow and develop.
My Project
I am needing to fund multiple copies of books for students to engage in meaningful discussion in books clubs. This provides students a structure for reading, a purpose for reading, and an outlet to communicate about what they are reading.
I am seeking books that have strong characters for my readers to study and learn how characters change and develop throughout a story.
Research shows that students who have a purpose for reading and enjoy the books they read will read significantly more words and books each year. While our library is FULL of great books for them to read, it does not have 3-4 copies of each book for students to have a book club, read with a purpose, and discuss what they are reading. Having started book clubs this year, I have had more engagement in reading and more parents tell me that their child loves reading for book clubs.
" The more you READ, the more things you KNOW,
The more that you learn the more places you'll go."
