This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are super sweet and smart. I know that they would love an opportunity to see new worlds within their classroom. I refer to my students as future world changers.
Many of them want to be in professions that save lives but need to know that it can be a reality.
They live in a community where opportunities to explore the world is limited. My first graders deserve a chance to grow the same as many other first graders regardless of the environment.
My Project
I teach in an inner city area where a lot of our literature and books do not reflect our students or their culture. Including these books in my classroom would not only allow students to see characters like them but also see that they can be anything.
Black boys and girls need characters that give them hope and joy that look like them.
Stories such as I am Enough would encourage my students to understand that one day they will change the world for the better. This library will not only help them as students, but it will help me, as their teacher. I can open their minds to new worlds and experiences through diverse literature.
