What I love most about my students is their attitudes. Most of my elementary/middle school students have been together since kindergarten and have grown into a "family" rather than just "classmates". My students are enthusiastic and excited about Spanish. They are eager to use their skills outside of the
classroom.
I catch many of these students using their Spanish in the hallways, lunch room, and play ground.
I am passionate about teaching Spanish through storytelling. This year I would LOVE to build my elementary Spanish classroom library. As a small, rural, K-12 district, we do not always receive sufficient funding for resources other than the textbooks in our classrooms . . . which are often outdated. Giving students access to authentic resources will allow them to succeed and grow!
My Project
Storytelling is a daily activity in my elementary Spanish classroom. These books will continue to help bring meaningful vocabulary and phrases to life.
I strive to create a classroom library where students can bring literacy to life, and this project will continue to help do just that!
By carefully choosing these books with each of my students in mind, I know my students will now be able to find books that nurture their interests and excite their minds and imaginations. These books will help my students practice Spanish in a natural and engaging way. I love that when my students read in Spanish, they input the language in authentic contexts. Not only are they building their Spanish acquisition, but they are practicing grade-level reading strategies that they can apply anywhere! My elementary students are fascinated by books and show a deep interest in reading. This project will only enhance their storytelling in Spanish experiences!
