My students need these books to support the curriculum we are teaching. We are currently using photocopied readers, which do not include all the components of a book (title page, table of contents, etc.)
My students are enthusiastic and sweet. Each one learns in a different way which makes them each unique and special. The best way for young learners to learn is through hands-on activities. My students all come from different backgrounds and situations. As their teacher, I can only control what happens within my classroom. Therefore, I want to provide a loving, positive, and language rich environment that they can thrive in.
I want to help these sweeties find new and exciting ways to explore new skills.
They are genuinely excited about anything new that is introduced into our classroom.
My Project
We are currently using the CKLA curriculum and are finding fantastic results. However, we have been printing our own materials from the website. After printing the books and photocopying, we have found it difficult for the students. We cannot include important pieces, such as table of contents, and we are not able to print and copy them so that they are in proper book format. This makes it difficult for the students to understand how to hold and use books properly. Also when copying, the print is smaller and the pictures are not clear. When working with beginning readers, it is important that the print be large and the pictures are clear to support unknown words.
These books include words that our students should be able to blend based on the phonics we have covered so far in our skills classes.
This will give them practice reading and encourage them to become the strong readers they need to be! It is such a huge confidence booster to hold a book in your hands and read it from start to finish.
