Help me give my students the books on this year's Battle of the Books List so they can each have a copy of the books they are reading and prepare for the competition!
My middle school is in a culturally-diverse, high-poverty area in Durham, NC. We are a Title I school and more than 80% of our students participate in the free and reduced price lunch program. Many of our students do not have access to the supplies and safe environment that students do elsewhere. We are working to ensure that the Media Center is a place for students to know that they are safe and welcome. Our mission is to act as a community gathering space for students and staff to support their goals.
My Project
The students on our Battle of the Books (BoB) team are so excited to compete in the regional quiz-bowl style competition! These students come from a wide range of backgrounds and reading history, but they have one thing in common- the joy they feel after reading an exceptionally good book.
The 14 students on my BoB team can't wait to get their hands on the books on this year's BoB list- and we just need a few more copies!
Each student is assigned to read a certain number of books, and then one or two of their choice. If we had enough copies of each book for the students to read simultaneously, it would be much easier for them to hold effective discussions.
Your donation will literally put books in the hands of our students, many of whom would not otherwise have access to them. Our BoB team hopes that you will support our love of reading!
