My students need books! We need books for animal research, narrative writing, and fairy tale writing. These books act as "mentor texts" to show how to write excellent texts.
My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I want to make sure they are fully ready to take on the day and learn as much as they can!
They like to move, they love to read and they love being creative.
These inspiring young people show me every day how resilient and compassionate they are. My students come from diverse families, and our classroom truly represents the uniqueness of the United States, California, and Berkeley. Several different languages are spoken by students in my classroom, and each has a different story to tell about how they made it to our room.
My Project
My students love reading! They devour books and enjoy learning from them. Our school's curriculum encourages this and requests that teachers have classroom libraries filled with interesting books, as well as sets of nonfiction texts on animals.
However, we are given only a few books each year, and we are lucky if we get more than one on a single topic.
This makes teaching the curriculum difficult, as students do not have the resources to do the required work. These books will help my students complete their research on animals, analyze adaptations of fairy tales, and understand the detail required in writing personal narratives.
These materials are necessary for my students to get a complete understanding of our curriculum. They're also engaging and fun to read!
