I teach a group of energetic children who are excited to delve deeper into major events that have impacted our history. Unfortunately, many of the students do not currently have access to reading materials that both engage and educate them. With our library down for renovations (which means all the books are all packed away) and only a limited classroom library set to make do with for the foreseeable, the students are starving for new reading materials. They're asking for new books, and I want to be able to tell them we've got them.
My Project
Our library is boxed away. It has been for over eight months now, and there are no signs of it being unpacked any time soon. The small classroom sets do not have enough copies for all the students to be able to read at the same time.
We are in desperate need of reading materials, especially on a level which our students can comprehend but with topics that will still challenge them to think critically.
Maus and March are both being used in projects where we show how history can be taught in many ways, while the books in Spanish are for the ESL students who currently have almost no books to choose from in the library.
