During our hour and half reading block, students read independently for 15 minutes at the beginning of class. We then go into our guided instruction focusing on essential reading comprehension skills. My goal for my students by the end of the year is to enjoy reading.
My students are 4th graders, they enjoy learning and exploring new interest.
Since we are a TItle 1 school, students receive two meal a day at no charge to them. With the amazing teachers, staff and administration at my school students enjoy coming to school and sadly sometimes don't look forward to long breaks and being away from school. My students were a bit of a challenge at the beginning of the year. I learned that they were seeking for an adult figure to show them compassion, and give them the courage to know they can achieve their goals.
My Project
With these books being added to our classroom library, my students will enjoy their independent reading time. This year, we read a nonfictional story that discussed the importance of reading independently. The article addressed that student who read during their free time are more likely to go to college and to gain a higher paying job. As the article continued to show the positive outcomes that are attached to reading, this sparked a classroom discussion. My students expressed to me that they enjoy reading but they like to read book series. Majority of my class enjoys reading books such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Goosebumps and Dork Diaries.
Donations to this project will help my students spark their interest in reading.
I have many students who are grade levels behind on reading and by adding these books to our classroom library my students will want to read. By my students reading more and enjoying reading you will be helping them better their chances to increase their reading level, comprehension and vocabulary. By my students succeeding in school at such a young age, you will be encouraging them to reach their future goals.
