Help me give my students books that celebrate the people, cultures, landscapes, and animals of the world and our common social, emotional, loving and caring connections.
Our Primary School is located in a rural community in central Virginia with a dynamic group of three to eight year olds. Appomattox is where our nation was reunited after the Civil War. We are a loving and community rich school. Limited financial resources, opportunities, and adversities could keep us stuck in the past, but our hearts and determination are leading us to a bright future. Our school motto begins with "Be your best for all to see" and we will succeed.
My Project
These glorious books will bring magic to our art room from around the world. Our art room is a place my students truly enjoy with their full imagination and wonder. Every book was chosen with our global art theme, social and emotional well being in mind. For example, "How to Fold a Taco" is a humorous and easy connection for students to make to culture, motor and coordination skills, and active creativity. These titles are beautifully illustrated, fun, funny and age appropriate in message and skill level.
We love reading and sharing books because it inspires art making, human connection, and creative thinking.
The students love opportunities to read to adults and each other. When we have guests to read with our students it is so lovely to have new and exciting books they can share. Students will be able to continue to enjoy these books during independent reading time. They are able to use reading apps to have them read aloud again to them or to take Accelerated Reader tests on them if they choose. I will be able to upload art lessons for students at home when they are not able to be with us at school.
With these new books, my students will create a variety of inspirational art projects enriching their emotional and social skills . For instance, with "Ravi's Roar" our classes will create a project featuring tigers and emotions. These gems of literature will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word and amazing illustrators.
