Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"At the moment that we persuade a child, any child, to cross that threshold, that magic threshold into a library, we change their lives forever, for the better." - B. Obama, President of the USA I want students in the class to enjoy literacy and read for the sake of reading.

The community around the school would be characterized as an under-served area with high poverty.

I am a new teacher, and this is my first classroom. I have only been in the classroom for two days. I can already tell that the students are eager readers. They will often ask for more time to read independently once they have found a book they enjoy. At this time I only have about 50 books that a class of about 30 have to share. That means that there is a little over 1 book per child.

My Project

I believe each book is an adventure and provides educational value. With your support, students will improve their literacy skills when reading the texts requested such as poetry, mystery, and fantasy. Throughout the year, we will also be having a "genre study" where we dissect what makes a "personal narrative" the way it is. The books also act as mentor texts that students can have for reference and inspiration when creating their own "personal narratives." In addition, they will hone their higher level thinking skills when they analyze text and compare ideas from two different books.

A great man, Dr. Seuss, is known for saying, "The more that you read, the more things you will know.

The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." If you donate to this project, you will definitely be contributing to the students' growth and learning.
