My students need materials for our classroom library that we lost in hurricane Harvey. These materials will help bring back a normalcy into my students lives as well as help increase their academic learning.
As a teacher who has faced the difficulties of hurricane Harvey first hand, my students and our school district have been faced with same challenges. Despite all the obstacles that we have faced in this past year, I am looking to keep things as simple as possible and provide my students with creative ways to learn and grow.
My students are eager to learn and full of energy!
They like to move, they love to read and their absolute favorite time is center time. Many of them are living in construction zones as their homes are still being repaired from Harvey, as well as our school, so as a teacher my goal is to make the classroom a place where my students can experience something that is normal, safe and makes them feel comfortable. I may not be able to control my students home lives, however, I can control their experience at school. Doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire my students to academic excellence.
My Project
When hurricane Harvey hit not only did many of our schools get destroyed so did many of our homes. Many of these students had both extremes. All of these materials are going towards rebuilding what we used to have in our library/center area before hurricane Harvey hit.
This project is going to help bring back the normalcy that all these kids long for.
The books will give the children reading material as well as a variety of genres to choose from. The bookcases and book baskets will give the books a home in the classroom. A rug is a place where we gather as a class and tell stories, have meaningful discussions and learn together. The stools and the cushions will give a place for the students to sit while reading. All of these things are going to help my students regain what they need for a functional library and center area in our classroom. Please help me as we try to put back the pieces after hurricane Harvey.
