What is the best thing to do to help a reader become better? Read! I know it is so important for children to have access to books, not just any books but topics that they are interested in. Book access is the game changer for our children. Children need books that reflect in their experiences!
Our school is a Title One school but my kids are so much more.
I am working on building a love of reading in the classroom by talking about the books I love and read, book trailers, authors and book talk. My students enjoy reading and I want to feed this love with new and fresh books.
My Project
My students will be so grateful for these books because I've hand picked these books for each child in my classroom. I know what topics interest them, authors and genres they like to read. For example, I ordered a few sets of "I Survived" because my boys can't get enough of historical fiction. I will be using these with guided reading where I will build their comprehension through books!
All children deserve access to their full promise through the improved opportunities literacy provides.
We want the best for our children and hope for a better world through our children. Books provide us with the best chance we have to change things. We are reading a book called "Fish in a Tree". In the book, it always relates to having a wooden nickel day or a silver dollar day. I promise you all forty-six of these students will have the latter if they receive these books.
